Look of the day - Staying at Home

Staying at home is no reason to be sloppy. One can be comfy and yet still  stylish.

Here's my staying-home clothes today.

This is a color blocking style wherein bold opposing colors are put together, in this case - deep dark blue and off-white.  Color blocking, when  done and coordinated properly it could create an illusion of slimmer figure. Like this dress I made where the darker fabric is at the sides and the lighter fabric at the center makes a narrowing effect.

Color blocking may not be for everyone but I think as long as the design and the colors are properly positioned, it could be stylishly worn by any size and shape of body.

Look of the day- for a lunch out with my girls

Today I am going out for lunch with my girls...also it is raining so I am wearing a casual yet chic dress and a cardigan with low wedges and I kept the accessories to minimum.

Sexy Hand Sewn Cocktail Dress

Ever been in a situation when you thought you have the tools to create something, only to find out that the  tool has already gone bust beyond repair after buying tons of materials to work on? Well I had that experience with my sewing machine....buying a new machine is not in my immediate priority list but this is not something that will prevent me from  creating- this only means a change in plan, design, and tools...

So instead of machine sewing, I did hand sewing...the design is modified to simple sheath dress instead of one with cinching and draping but still creates  a beautiful silhouette.

The fabric is Jersey.... the good thing about this fabric is that it doesn't fray, thus there is no need to fold or edge stitch the hem, neckline and armhole....just measure, cut and stitch the shoulder and side.

 
Measure the widest part of the body and use this as the width of the dress. Some have the breast area as the wider part but as for me it is my hips. Oh don't forget to add half an inch extra for the seam.

Measure the length from the shoulder to mid thigh or an inch or two  above the knee. It can be floor length if a gown is desired.

In addition, I made a bracelet cum headband cum necklace out of the excess fabric.

Alter Fashion 2

Have you ever had a piece of clothing that you've gotten sick and tired of wearing because You've worn it in different combinations and pairings possible or you simply cannot wear  them because the elastic band had become loose or the zipper is broken or a button is missing and yet you cannot let go of it?

We have so many reasons why we hold on to a dress, blouse or skirt or whatever item it maybe but unless we find a way for it to become useful again, it will only weigh us down..it will only add clutter to our space, and that is not a practical way to live.

I have here an example of one piece of clothing that used to be a Midi skirt. I had these for years and had paired it with different blouses and belts....until the elastic band weakened. Instead of replacing the elastic band, I altered it into a one-shoulder blouse as you can see on the picture.

There are so many possible ways to alter the skirt, but I wanted to retain the ruffle detail with  less sewing and cutting.

Outfit of the day random collection

Here's my second outfit of the day random collection...I hope you enjoy.

Alter Fashion 1

When you've got so much style yet limited resources, creativity kicks in. That's when you make changes, alterations, recycling, and re-purposing of what is available at hand.....and I call this Alter Fashion.


The first Alter Fashion I will show is just a simple T-shirt alteration...from a short sleeved to halter shirt. You can cut off the sleeves according to the amount of shoulder exposure you'd like. To ensure you do not over cut, wear the T-shirt first and mark the location of the cutting...use a washable marker.

Another one is reviving an old sandal ...most of the time wedges gets either soiled or scraped over time so to make it look brand new, just cover it with something like a yarn or cloth...here I use the yarn.
The yarn is crocheted to make it wider and more textured. Then with some water-proof multi purpose glue, attach the yarn layer by layer.

Outfit of the day -random collection

I want to start a blog on my personal style to share to the world my passion, however, I don't have anything organized to begin with so I'll just start with a random collection of my outfits of the day which mostly were posted in my facebook account.
My style is kinda unique I would say....I prefer generic /unbranded clothes but most of the time I alter them- like cutting the hemline or cinching or pimping, whatever I like, such that my clothes have no exact replicas out there.
