Ways to wear the sexy sheath dress part2. 

In my earlier weblog I've shown ways to wear this hand sewn sheath dress with different types of belts, this time it is with        coat/jacket/cardigan.

Look of the day- Cute Empire dress

Empire waist dress or Empire cut dress or Empire dress is a type of dress or maybe a blouse where  the waistline is raised above the natural waistline or sometimes higher somewhere below the bust line. This design is supposed to camouflage a bottom heavy figure or a thick waist- it covers the extra curves (in unwanted places) of the body....
However, not all Empires are created equal...instead it could reveal the undulation that we thought are discretely hidden. Just like what I have here...

I was once strutting in this dress in one of the malls in Malaysia...well I thought I was looking sexy in this dress when I last saw myself in the mirror before I left the house...but after having lamb chops and cheese cake at the Secret Recipe, I felt "weirded" and a bit annoyed by those ladies who kept on shoving to my face their brochures every time I pass by their stall that sells those "MAGIC GIRDLES"...I thought it was odd....but I did realize soon after when I went to an intimate apparel shop and the saleslady tried to offer me stuffs for pregnant women....WHAT!...and so this dress went straight to storage and stayed there until....Now I have the solution.

The solution: Wide belts in darker color/shade- we all know that a belt puts the curves in the right place and hides the extra bulge. The darker color creates and illusion of slimmer waist. It has to be a wide belt to cover from the empire cut line to the natural waist line..also it makes the torso look longer.

I have only two wide belts in my closet so here's how they look...

I would wear with this belt on a more formal occasion or to a party or dinner date, put on some heels and hoop earing...

with this belt it is more on a casual tone....

For today I choose this look.

Just right for going around town in a sun shiny day

with simple necklace.

with guitar or probably it's a ukelele designed  connector ring

with flip flops and an anklet.

The art of Re-purposing.

What to do with an 80's jacket? Obviously no one wants to be found dead in them...
The 80's Style was marked by padded shoulders, big and wide sleeves that tapers at the wrist.
 

So, what I did with this jacket was cut off the wide sleeves- simple! Problem solved, however, the true test for creativity is when almost all if not all, fabric is recycled or re-purposed.

Here's what I did with the sleeves...nothing was wasted not even the cuffs.

The sleeves were really wide that it was big enough to make into a bag. Now with the environmentalism drive, ECO friendly, recyclable bags are ubiquitous in the supermarket...I don't have to buy mine I just made one.

As for the cuffs....

These are the options for  the cuff of the sleeves...I initially made into an arm band but later used it as the handle for the bag.

The process was very simple...no fabric was cut off . I used yarn of different colors  to hand stitch the two sleeves together and for embroidery and glued design.

Just cut the sleeves open, remove the cuffs and then use outline stitch to attach the two pieces of  "arms" together

More embellishments can be added if desired...but as for me this is pretty enough for shopping bag.

I did some embroidery to add my signature design and personality to the bag...but not necessary for practical purposes.

ain't that fancy....go ahead, make your own bag that speaks of you.

Look of the day - Sexy Mini dress with scarf

Putting a twist to a simple black dress with a square scarf.

A sheath cotton dress + Square scarf

The dress is just fine as it is...This is perfect when you are traveling light where one piece can give you different looks by just adding a few accessories.

Just tie the scarf behind the neck and around the waist. Perfect for hiding those big lunches or meals or during those days that we just feel bloated.

 or add a belt.

Hide the excess scarf fabric under the belt to make an illusion of a blouse and skirt

Wearing a pair like this makes your outfit scream party and dinner dates

This is another look where the scarf looks like Peplum-

a short full flounce or an extension of a garment below the waist, covering the hips.

Accessorize according to the occasion. Too much may make you look like a clown. 

Since I will just be going to the mall with my kids- I choose these pieces and  combination to be more appropriate with the activity and place.

The armlet makes the look edgy

Look of the day - Staying at Home

Staying at home is no reason to be sloppy. One can be comfy and yet still  stylish.

Here's my staying-home clothes today.

This is a color blocking style wherein bold opposing colors are put together, in this case - deep dark blue and off-white.  Color blocking, when  done and coordinated properly it could create an illusion of slimmer figure. Like this dress I made where the darker fabric is at the sides and the lighter fabric at the center makes a narrowing effect.

Color blocking may not be for everyone but I think as long as the design and the colors are properly positioned, it could be stylishly worn by any size and shape of body.

Today, I am crossed between wearing a pair of boots or  sandals.
It had been raining on and off and I wanted to wear boots because the streets are wet and paddy, however, it is also so hot....ooohhhh, what to wear in this very unpredictable weather.

Re-purposing project -a lamp decor into trinkets hanger

I was gifted with this boat designed lampshade made of wood, metal frame and some indigenous materials. It had its good days and now it's time to let it go...but instead of discarding it, I thought I could re-purpose it into something more useful and practical...and that's as a trinket holder....
